Berkeley’s Fourth Street shopping district is as renowned for its innovative approach to retail as it is for its enormous success. Studio KDA worked with the creators of the district, Abrams/Millikan, to extend the shopping and lifestyle experience to the next block to the south. The new development, dubbed Fourth + Spenger’s, provides 55,000 square feet of new retail and restaurant space with offices above. In keeping with Fourth Street’s spirit of innovation, the new development provides a public paseo with a beer garden and a series of “maker shacks” to house small start-up retail endeavors.
