Jack O’Neill Restaurant

Santa Cruz, CA
Perched above Cowell Beach at the Dream Inn, Jack O’Neill Restaurant occupies hallowed ground — the very site where surf pioneer Jack O’Neill opened his iconic Santa Cruz surf shop in 1959, a location now recognized as a California Point of Historical Interest. The design honors that legacy while capturing the easy, sun-warmed spirit of the Central Coast.

In the dining room, mixed fabric patterns on banquette seating and pillows bring relaxed beach-house energy, while wicker chairs, ocean-inspired wallpaper, and wood slat panels — evoking the weathered rhythm of a coastal fence — layer in texture and warmth. Overhead, frilly statement chandeliers drift like jellyfish from the ceiling, and every table faces what matters most: sweeping, uninterrupted views of the Santa Cruz Beach and Boardwalk.

The lounge tells a more personal story. A large-format Jack O’Neill photo mural anchors the space in surf history, surfboards hang overhead, and generous lounge seating invites guests to settle in and stay awhile — a fitting tribute to the man who made the ocean accessible to all.
