Owners Alex Popov and Chris Hoff had a vision: A fifty foot long bar with 42+ beers on tap, an accessible menu focused on seasonal comfort foods, an outdoor drinking patio with fire pits, and a huge music venue for touring bands, all right in the heart of downtown Berkeley with easy access for Cal students. A former pool hall, the entire space was gutted and over two years, transformed into a 6500 sf restaurant with an attached 500 person, 6500 sf music venue with state of the art sound and lighting, complete with VIP balconies, green room and sound booth. Everything was scaled for impact. The existing back brick wall was opened up with 11′-0″ high x 18-0″ wide folding door openings. A sprawling bar lounge area greets the diner with 20 thrifted brass cymbals creating a custom lighting element.
