Yakalo Warsai Building

The renovation of this 4,000 SF building was a key component in the economic renaissance of its Oakland neighborhood. The project, which began with a feasibility study, took the dilapidated structure and transformed it into a thriving mixed-use building with apartments over offices and a corner cafe.

To revitalize this battered building, we stripped it down to the frame and provided a new interior layout, new plumbing, heating, and electrical service as well as a full seismic retrofit. Key architectural elements were salvaged and/or restored.

The addition of two new towers at key corners of the building, new glass and steel awnings, decorative ironwork, and a rich color palette create a warm and vibrant presence in the building’s urban setting.
