The Edge — 2026 Gold Nugget Grand Award, Student Housing
Studio KDA’s The Edge has won a 2026 Gold Nugget Grand Award in the Student Housing category. Sited at the edge of the UC Berkeley campus and the Telegraph Avenue Shopping District, the 8-story mixed-use building offers privately owned student housing just steps from the university, with unit types ranging from three- to six-bedroom layouts and amenities shaped around student life — a rooftop deck and generous balconies overlooking campus and Bancroft Avenue, a quieter lower courtyard for informal gathering, and ground-floor space designed for a future restaurant, café, and bar.
The project takes both its name and its architectural language from its site: a continuous edge-band wraps the building from ground to roof, unifying the design while marking its prominent position at the literal edge of campus, and balconies on every level reinforce that same connection, framing views back toward UC Berkeley. Developed by Rue-Ell Enterprises Inc. and completed in June 2025, The Edge was recognized for its design response to one of the most visible sites in student housing today.
