The Morgan Berkeley

Berkeley, CA
Designed to support residents over time while honoring its North Berkeley location, 1850 Berryman will offer a new housing option in the Bay Area. The six-unit building is organized around principles of accessibility and longevity, with an elevator, level-in entries, and layouts that enable residents to age in place.

Located within walking distance of local shops, parks, and public transportation, the project emphasizes both independence and connection. A mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom flats provides for a range of households. Larger upper-level units, with private decks that extend living spaces outdoors, can accommodate small families, while the lower units provide a compact and efficient alternative for singles or couples.

The building’s proportions, materials, and detailing draw inspiration from the work of Julia Morgan, reflecting a sensitivity to North Berkeley’s historical architectural fabric. While these influences are apparent, the building systems are fully modern and designed for operational efficiency, including heat pump HVAC systems, solar power, energy-efficient appliances, and advanced acoustic separation systems.

The unit interiors are also designed to balance a warm, classical character with modern conveniences. Natural materials and traditional forms — stone, tile, hardwood flooring, generous windows and high ceilings, are complemented by smart home features, high-end appliances and integrated security systems.

The project is being done in collaboration with renown Berkeley developers, Panoramic Interests. Construction is scheduled for Fall 2026.
