When the historic Berkeley Tuolumne Family Camp (BTC) was destroyed by fire in 2013, Studio KDA was brought in to redesign the kitchen facility for the Dining Hall, which functions as the heart of the camp. As food & beverage experts and former BTC campers, we applied our personal knowledge of the dining hall operations alongside the consultant team’s extensive commercial kitchen design. The result is a new kitchen and “front of house” experience that seamlessly balances operational efficiency with community needs. The new dining hall now serves three daily meals to hundreds of campers while supporting the dynamic workflow of the young staff who keep it running. Designed in collaboration with Siegel & Strain Architects and Myers Foodservice.
